A medical oncologist, Dawn Klemow-Reed, M.D., specializes in the areas of breast cancer and benign hematology. Her primary emphasis is determining therapeutic approaches to eliminate cancer cells and prevent their spread throughout the body.
Based on her experience and knowledge of new breast cancer therapeutics, Dr. Klemow-Reed offers a comprehensive range of treatment options to patients. This includes both traditional and new alternatives – chemotherapy drugs, biologic agents, and hormonal therapy. Her expertise includes presenting alternatives with less toxicity than conventional chemotherapy.
Dr. Klemow-Reed says the team approach that UT Southwestern Medical Center applies to evaluating and treating breast cancer offers patients a significant advantage – whether the case is common or highly rare and complex. Because a group of specialists is fighting the cancer, the best possible solutions are presented to help the patient. This can include new technology, genetics counseling, and clinical trials – whatever is appropriate for the case.
Dr. Klemow-Reed completed fellowship training at UT Southwestern in medical oncology. She also completed fellowships at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in hematology and oncology, along with her internship. She received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
